KENNEWICK, WA- The Annual Toys for Tots is underway and local families in need signed up to received some of those toys for the upcoming holiday season.

Every year hundreds of families spend the holidays without gifts to unwrap and that is why the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is here to help.  Saturday and Sunday families in need will get the chance to sign up to receive gifts this holiday season.

The sign-ups are at the Benton PUD Auditorium in Kennewick.  They will be back open for registration Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is something the local Kennewick Marine Corps Recruiting Office and a former client turned volunteer feel is a great need in this community.

"It's good to help out and people that come in and get that help and get toys for the kids. It's so great helping them and telling them that there is help," said Maria Bernal, former client who now volunteers for Toys for Tots.

"We're teaching the children to be a part of a community and trying to give a sense of community and giving hope to kids because there's nothing worse than waking up on Christmas morning and not having presents," said Glen Carter, Toys for Tots coordinator.

Items to bring are proof of income, a picture ID, and birth certificates for kids 12 and under.

The next dates for registration are November 28th and 29th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Benton PUD Auditorium.  Distribution days are December 19th and 20th. To help out, people can donate toys to the Toys for Tots drop-off box at Toys R Us.  For more information, click here.
