Search Continues for Missing Hunter Near Royal City

Posted: Updated:

Royal City, WA.- 55 year old Thomas Stieg is still missing after family says he went hunting near Royal City on Friday. ?

Stieg's family told the Grant County Sheriff's Office they started to worry about him when he didn't respond to calls or texts after he was supposed to have returned home from a day long hunting trip Saturday morning.

Deputies began searching for Stieg near Crab Creek just West of Royal City. They did have to call off the search Sunday night when it got dark, but resumed around 8 on Monday morning.

They told us they're hoping to locate him soon given the extreme weather and cold temperatures.

"With the weather and dip in temperatures we are very concerned for Mr. Stieg's safety, "GSO Information Officer, Kyle Foreman said, "That's why we mobilized as many resources as possible and hopefully we can bring him back to safety."

Deputies told us they had more than a 100 volunteers out searching for Stieg on Saturday and Sunday.

We did find out Monday afternoon that due to the cold weather and snow expected over the next two nights Deputies canceled the search until further notice. They say they'll alert the public when they feel it's safe to resume the search.

Stieg was last seen wearing camouflage and caring archery equipment, if you've seen him you're asked to call the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
