Construction Workers Break Ground on Assisted Living Center in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- It's been more than 10 years since Yakima has seen a new assisted living center, but on Monday construction crews broke ground on one they hope will be completed by this time next year.

Once completed, Fieldstone Orchardwest, will sit on Englewood Avenue next to Fieldstone Memory Care.

Designers of the project told us this new center will house 75 different apartments, with a fitness center, theatre, library, and salon and spa.

They told us they're excited to help out the elderly community in Yakima, but also to provide new jobs.

"They'll be over 100 construction jobs over the next twelve months and then 50 permanent positions once we open so we'll be creating jobs," Project Designer Justin Yonker said.

They hope to have the project completed by October of 2016. They estimate the project will cost around $15 million.
