Pasco Public Works Talks About De-Icing Roads

PASCO,WA- On Tuesday, we talked with the Public Works Director, Ahmad Qayoumi. After the snowfall Monday night into Tuesday morning, we wanted to know if the deicer they use is particular and how they're expecting to plan out what roads to de-ice in Pasco.

According to Qayoumi they de-ice the roads based on a prioritized list, first up popular streets and those surrounding schools, hospitals and emergency responder buildings. He also told us, "we use an environmentally friendly liquid solution we initially spray it when we have snow coming in so we apply it on intersections so snow and ice doesn't stick to it".

Using a de-icer that is environmentally friendly makes it better and safer when the snow and ice melts into water and combines with the solution, leaving it not as hazardous as salt would be.

The Department of Public Works will be working 24 hours through the winter weather conditions to make sure all roads are protected from the freezing rain and snow. If you have a road near you that needs attention please call, 509-545-3463.
