KENNEWICK, WA - According to Progressive Insurance after they analyzed claims they found that accidents actually increase by 25 percent the day before Thanksgiving.

Washington State Patrol recommends that you drive slower, especially in bad weather, and know your own driving capabilities.

"Increase you're following distance between you and the car in front of you. If it's snowing out and you're only able to drive 40-50 miles an hour on the highway it's OK we don't want you to crash. You don't have to drive the speed limit," says Trooper Chris Thorson, Washington State Patrol.

If you are traveling home from out of state Progressive also found that the Sunday after Thanksgiving is another high percentage accident day and that Monday is the safest day to head home.
