SEATTLE (AP) - A group of students from Western Washington University say the campus is not safe for women of color.

The women, who plan to hold a news conference on Wednesday morning in Bellingham, say they have been threatened with sexual and gun violence on social media.

The university administration canceled classes on Tuesday in response to racist social media posts. But the women, wo are working with a Seattle group called Latino Advocacy, say that move was not enough to protect them.

It is unknown if the people who posted the threats are students at the state university in Bellingham. The posts mentioned almost every ethnic group, including blacks, Muslims, Jews and American Indians, blaming them for an effort on campus to debate changing the university's mascot, a Viking.
