Yakima Union Gospel Mission Hosts Thanksgiving Dinner

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- The Union Gospel Mission in Yakima celebrated their annual Thanksgiving dinner Thursday afternoon, welcoming hundreds through their doors.

They've been hosting Thanksgiving lunch and dinner at the mission for more than 30 years now and they told us  the outpouring from the community is what makes this all possible.

They typically have to buy at least a few items for the dinner, but this year they told us they received so many donations they didn't have to buy a thing.

They're expecting around 300 people at this year's lunch and dinner and they tell us what really makes it worth it is seeing how grateful people are for the warm meal.

"You know we see a variety of people here, people who can afford a thanksgiving meal, but are just lonely, and come here because it's a fun environment and want to socialize," Communications Director, Stephanie Carlson, said.

The mission hosted their lunch at 1 Thursday afternoon and also a dinner at 6pm.

They'll also be holding a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner in December.
