Yakima Prepares Their Roads For Snow and Freezing Rain

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- It looks like the Yakima Valley is in for another winter storm, they're expected to see freezing rain and up to four inches of snow overnight.

Tuesday afternoon we checked in with the City of Yakima to see just how they'll be preparing the roads for winter weather, since the city already had one "snow alert" this season.

They told us they're going to start preparing earlier for this winter storm. The City Traffic and Streets Division was out this afternoon prepping the streets with liquid deicer and loading up their plows with salt in case we see more than 3 inches of snow, which would put the city in a "snow alert".

However, Joe Rosenlund with the Traffic and Streets Division, said their biggest concern won't be the snow accumulation, "Probably our bigger concern, more than the snow total, is the freezing rain that could come after, that could make quite a mess."

In addition to prepping the roads the city will also be putting flyers on cars along snow routes to alert people in case the plows are sent out early tomorrow morning.

The city says if you do need to move your car you can park in any of the cities free parking lots downtown.

The snow is expected to start this evening, so the city is asking everyone to be careful, and drive slow on your morning commute tomorrow.
