New Cargo Van Expected to Improve Outreach, Increase Pet Adoptions in Yakima

YAKIMA, WA  - The Yakima Humane Society is now better equipped to help out abandoned and abused pets thanks to a brand new Sprinter van.

The van has been made possible thanks to many individual donors and the City of Yakima. They tell us it'll have many uses, including serving as a safe transportation system to be able to go to more adoption events throughout the state.

Eventually, it will be outfitted as a medical unit, to hold more microchip and vaccine clinics and improve community outreach.

"It will allow us to go into our community, instead of always asking people to come here, because there are barriers. People have jobs and they can't always get off work. So if we can go out to where people need us, that's going to be a wonderful gift," said Nicole Papageorgiou, Outreach & Education Manager.

They also hope the vehicle will help increase awareness about the importance of spay and neuter as well as increase adoptions.
