City Prepares Streets If Heavy Rain Causes Flooding

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- We've had some rainy weather over the past few days and the rain Monday caused some streets and intersections in Yakima to flood.

The flooding has gone down as of today, but we're expected to see more rain this week, so we checked in with the City of Yakima with their streets division to see how they handle flooding.

They told us that most of the time their drainage system works to take care of any flooding problems, but if we see more heavy rain this week they may have to go out and pump the water and clear the drains.

However they say they're more concerned with the high winds combined with the rain that could hit our area.

"You know what's predicted isn't outside the normal, so I think our bigger concern is if those high winds that are predicted ever show up, and I think that's maybe more of an issue," Joe Rosenlund, with Yakima Public Works, told us.

They're also warning people to be cautious, if you see a large puddle of water try your best to avoid it. The city says you never know how deep it can be and you could drive right through a pot hole if you aren't careful.
