Yakima Specialties Continues to Support Coats for Kids Drive Through Laundry Services

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - Our Coats for Kids drive wouldn't be possible without the help of several organizations in the Tri-Cities and Yakima, including Yakima Specialties.

Before our coats can make it out into the community, they need to be washed and that's where Yakima Specialties comes in, an organization that employs adults with disabilities.

They offer woodshop, janitorial services, supported employment and laundry services among other services for local businesses. We learned their washing machines have a 500 lb. capacity, which is a good thing considering our coats are coming in by the van load.

Lyle Ocker with Yakima Specialties says they look forward to the Coats for Kids drive year after year.

"I think it's important for everyone to give back to their community. And this is just one way of many ways that Yakima Specialties does that. We're very happy to take those items and wash them for these folks and it's always been a big part of the community, so of course we wanted to be a part of that as well," said Ocker.

Yakima Specialties also serves as a drop-off site so feel free to swing by to drop off your coats. They are located at 1819 West 'J' St in Yakima.
