Flooding On The Naches River Is Causing Washed Out Bridges and Evacuations

Posted: Updated:

NACHES, WA.- We've definitely seen some crazy weather over the past few days, snow and ice last week, now extreme rain that's causing flooding in the Yakima and Naches Rivers.

We received word on Wednesday that the Nile Fire Department evacuated 30 homes in the Nile Area and flood waters washed out the Nile Bridge over the Rattlesnake River, however that's not the only area being affected, flooding is occurring all over our region.

We found dozens of people watching the flooding, as fast moving, high waters crashed into bridges.

One man, Steve Avila, lives along the Naches River and told us he hasn't seen flood levels like this in a long time, "Back in 1996 this bridge got washed out, and it's looking like it might go through that again," Avila said.

For others who remember the flooding it's not the surprising to see the water crashing into bridges and rising quickly. Scooter Smith told us the floods of 1996 wiped out his home, and he's cautioning people to be careful.

"Be safe, don't push your luck, don't do anything foolish, your property is not worth your life," Smith told us.

Washington State Patrol told us they had troopers all along Highway 12, patrolling the river and several private bridges that lead to homes and camp grounds, making sure flood levels didn't rise to evacuation status.

However some people, like Steve Avila, are already planning on leaving the area, "There was water clear up to my shed, and it's about several hundred yards from the river. I'm worried about my buddy too, I think he might still be in there. I just hope my friend is alright, if I can't go in there I hope someone will go check on him, " Avila said.

On top of flood conditions State Patrol says they're dealing with mudslides along Highway 12 near White Pass. They say flooding has reached a point where most roads leading to the Naches Ranger District are closed off.

CDC says nasal spray is back for this year's flu season

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
