Weather Conditions Shut Down USPS Distribution Center in Spokane

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE- The United States Postal Service Distribution Center out of Spokane is open again after being shut down for two days. The facility is processing mail and the mail that was previously shipped to Seattle should be delivered Saturday or Monday.

We talked with Pasco Post Mater Dana Alderson who told us they will have extra staff working Saturday and Monday because of the abundance of mail coming in, "it does have an impact especially this time of year so what we do we'll increase maybe help that will go out and do parcels so that we can alleviate that so the carrier that's delivering that although they'll have more mail they won't have added extra parcels to deliver so yes we will".

SPOKANE, WA- The United States Postal Service Distribution Center out of Spokane is shut down after windy and rainy weather conditions overnight.

When the wind storm hit about a month ago it damaged some of the processing machines. After talking with their spokesperson, Ernie Swanson, he told us they covered the machines to protect them while preparing for the weather conditions this time around. He said the majority of the damage is in the roof. The damage is so bad they need to replace the roof but will be unable to do so until spring.

For now, Swanson told us they will be sending their mail to Seattle for distribution. They warn communities to prepare for two to three day delays with their mail.
