HANFORD, WA- Employees from the Vitrification Plant at Hanford and Local 598 Pipefitters are getting ready to put bikes together for children in our community for Christmas.

On Thursday, those from Bechtel and URS also helped load trucks full of toys for the Marine Corps Reserve annual Toys for Tots drive.

All of the Waste Treatment Center employees pulled together and donated thousands of toys and over $35,000.00 to Toys for Tots.

On Thursday night, members from Local 598 are setting up for the assembly of 750 bikes, something they tell NBC Right Now, is always humbling.

"The stories we get back from the schools, sometimes are the only things these people get. For some of them, this is the first bike that has ever been in their family, so it is life changing for some of them," said Randy Walli, the Training Director for Local 598.

"I anticipate that this employee population will continue to be loyal to this community and want to continue to support it," said Peggy McCullough, the Vit Plant Project Director.

Throughout this year alone, Vit Plant employees have given almost $600,000.00 back to our community through organizations and charity.

With these temperatures outside, it is really starting to feel like summer. This means you might be getting the boat ready to take out on the water. In order to have fun in the sun, you'll want to make sure your boat is safe and your passengers will be too. Today we stopped by the 19th Annual Boat and RV show to get some tips from the Benton County Sheriffs and Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers. They say you should take inventory of your boat to see if anything may have gotten lost ...More >>
