Walmart Fake Check Scam is Raising Concern in Community

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA- Yeimi Hernandez and her husband were pleasantly surprised to receive a hefty check from Walmart in the mail. Luckily they saw right through it and realized it was part of the scam that's going around.

When we met up with Yeimi on Monday she told us the letter detailed how to sign up to be a customer service evaluator for Walmart. All she had to do was deposit the $1,927.25, take out $350 and wire it back to them and then she would be given two assignments.

She researched for hours online, looking up the website and the company claiming to be associated with Walmart after she noticed something that raised suspicion, "what caught my attention was the bank it's coming from I'm not very familiar with it but I thought I heard that Wells Fargo bought it in 2008 so that made me a little more suspicious".

We talked with Walmart on Monday as well and they told us any legitimate business including themselves would never solicit mystery shoppers by email or any other public means. They also said to be cautious and remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
