Kennewick Police Warn of Fire Department Fundraiser Scam

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police say they got another report of a scam going around.

The latest one happened Monday. Police say the caller told the homeowner that he was collecting funds for the Fire department. He said the minimum donation was $100.

Police say they later learned that phone number had since been disconnected.

Officers want to remind everyone that there is no such fundraiser going on with the Fire Department.

Also, as the holiday season gets underway, they want to warn people to please be aware of scammers.

As a rule of thumb, never give any personal information over the phone for any reason.

Also, if the offer seems too good to be true, it is a scam.

Each year police say they see an increase in phone scams around the holiday season. Do not let this happen to you.
