Ellensburg School District Receives Email Threat

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, WA - The Ellensburg Police Department says the Ellensburg School District received the same email Wednesday that prompted the Los Angeles Unified School District to cancel classes at 900 schools this week.

Police say on Wednesday the Washington State Fusion Center out of Seattle informed them that the Ellensburg School District (ESD) was one of the school districts that had been sent an email threat in connection with the investigations in Los Angeles and New York on Tuesday, December 15.

Police contacted the School District which recovered the email threat from an automated junk email folder.

Police also contacted the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and confirmed the email received by the ESD is consistent with and connected to their investigations in Los Angeles and New York. They say that other ESD staff members were also sent the same email.

This is an ongoing investigation.

The Ellensburg Police Department says they take this investigation very seriously and is treating it as a priority for several reasons, one being that they also have children, friends and family members that attend and work in this school district. They have no information that would lead them or our federal partners to believe this is a credible threat.

They also are not aware of any other threats directed to the Ellensburg School District.
