The Bureau of Reclamation predicts water supply will be good during 2016

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA VALLEY, WA.- After a surprisingly snowy and rainy winter the forecast for the upcoming growing season is looking positive.

The Bureau of Reclamation says right now they're at 132 percent of average in their reservoirs.

That's well above average and they say it's even looking optimistic for the junior water right holders on the Roza Irrigation District.

Roza Irrigation Officials attempted a floating pump system on the Kachess Reservoir several months ago, but due to costs they cut the project.

However even without the project the Bureau of Reclamation says projections are looking good for growers in the Yakima Valley.

"The water supply right now appears to be in really good shape," Chris Lynch, with the Bureau of Reclamation said, "It's just going really well, the reservoirs have just incredibly recovered from the low of the previous irrigation season."

These are still predication; the official water supply forecast for the 2016 growing season comes out March 7th.
