Franklin County proposal may help advance 911 consolidation

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA- It's been a long process and years in the making, the two counting have been working to combine emergency dispatch centers. It hasn't been an easy process and there have definitely been obstacles especially when taking about how to fund the consolidation.

We talked with Franklin County Commissioner, Brad Peck and he told us the City of Pasco and Franklin County have decided to enter the combined system as full partners by buying in on the Southeast Communications Center. He said, "look at the investments made a decade or more ago figure out what the current value of those is because things do depreciate, technology and equipment, figure out a fair number everyone's comfortable with and give Pasco and Franklin County a chance to buy in and become full partners, and this becomes the best interest in the citizens, stand alone, all encompassing single point where you make the call it goes to one place and we get it out to the right responders".

By creating one multi-agency dispatch center it will help to eliminate the need to transfer misrouted 911 cellphone calls and will increase the efficiency and quality of the service.

From here, the counties propose hiring a consultant to help guide through the consolidation process.
