Garage Fire Under Investigation

YAKIMA, WA - The Yakima Fire Department is still investigating a garage fire that happened this morning on the 3600 block of Logan Lane. The fire department said, that the fire happened at around 7:50 a.m. and it's estimated that it caused $400,000 dollars in property damages.

The fire department believes that the fire started near the garage of the home and said that the homeowner was present when it started. The homeowner and his pets are safe but he did suffer minor injuries from paint in the garage and from some smoke inhalation. Due to the amount of fire heat was released that damaged a neighbors home and a motor home.

"Just because the fire is in that building doesn't mean in wont cause a lot of damage, especially radiant heat," said Jeff Pfaff Captain and PIO of the Yakima Fire Department. "It can get through the windows really easy and cause damage on the inside melt your curtains and actually cause a fire."

It was reported that it took fire crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the home, trailer and vehicles. Faff said that the fire could have been a lot worse had it fully consumed a camp trailer that had propane tanks in the front. He also adds that if there is a fire in your home and you exit through the door, to close the door behind you. Leaving a door open when there is a house fire allows for oxygen to enter igniting the flame and causing more damages.
