Gang member arrested Tuesday night in Kennewick for stealing a car

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Kennewick Police Department said a gang member was arrested Tuesday night for stealing a car.

Officers said on Monday, someone reported a stolen 1996 Honda Accord from the parking lot of the Home Depot at 3910 W. 27th Avenue. Officer said it happened between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. while the owner of the car was inside working. They said the car was locked and the keys were with the owner.

On Tuesday, police officers found the car parked in a parking lot on the corner of W. Albany Ave. and N. Dayton St. They spotted 19-year-old Zakary Powell, a known gang member, getting into the car. Officers contacted him and arrested him.

Police said the wheels on the car had been painted black and there was a can of black spray paint in the car. Powell also had black paint on his hands.

Officers booked Powell into the Benton County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. They returned the car back to the owner.
