County crews repair roads after more flooding hits West Valley area

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- A flood and storm watch was issued for parts of Yakima County on Wednesday; now homeowners and county crews are cleaning up further damage from flooding.

The Office of Emergency Management reported 12 homes were flooded Wednesday night and multiple roads were washed out.

The National Weather Service predicated around an inch and a half of rainfall Wednesday night, but they say it didn't reach the same level of Sunday's flooding.

County Road Repair Tech, Glenn Miller, says  the West Valley area has seen far worse flooding.

"You really can't expect anything when it comes to flooding," Miller said, "It could have been a lot worse and it was a lot worse in 1996."

County Road Crews told us they'll finish filling in washed out driveways today and begin work on the road shoulders next week.

They estimate that will take several weeks to complete and ask that people driving through Cottonwood Canyon, Ahtanum Valley, and Wide Hollow use extra caution.
