YAKIMA, WA - Spring is in full effect and the weather is getting warmer, but with the changes it is important to know that we are still in flu season. Some states are even experiencing a peak in the flu during this time of the year.

Officials with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare said they have seen a peak in the flu and have reported an increase in flu related deaths. The state has seen a total of 16 flu related deaths so far. Sheryl DiPietro, community health director for the Yakima Health District said this is not the case in Yakima.

"We are continuing to see some cases of the flu, we still have flu in our community," said DiPietro. "That is just continuing on from winter which is not uncommon."

She adds that flu season is not over yet and usually continues until late May or early June. The CDC states that they have seen a continued decrease in the flu, but it is still elevated overall nationally and 29 states are still reporting widespread activity of the flu at this time.
