Yakima Basin releases April water supply forecast and it looks good

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - The Yakima Basin water supply recently released its April forecast, and things are looking pretty good for this year's irrigation season. It is indicated that as of April the water supply is scheduled to fully satisfy junior and senior water rights for irrigation.

The forecast, released by the Bureau of Reclamation is based on flows, precipitation, snow pack and reservoir storage as of this month, along with estimates of future precipitation and river flows.

Chuck Garner, Yakima Project River Operations Supervisor said that the snow pack and reservoir storage will meet up to the seasons demands, and even if there is unfavorable run off or precipitation, an adequate water supply is expected.

Even though the forecast is looking positive Garner recommends that water conservation be considered by all users in the Yakima Basin.
