It's National Volunteer Week - A time to celebrate local volunteers

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WA -   There are many volunteer groups and organizations throughout the Yakima Valley that deserve to be recognized one of those organizations is the Yakima Rotary Club, the local chapter of international organization that has been in Yakima since 1919.

The Downtown Yakima Rotary Club is one of three Rotary Clubs in the Yakima area.  Together they identify services needed throughout the local community and even around the world.

In Yakima, Rotarians organize food drives, helped build Gateway Park, a playground and pavilion at Franklin Park, and a playground at Randall Park, and are constantly working on new projects throughout the community, supporting in either manual labor, financially, or both.

"I can only do so much as an individual, in terms of having impact and being a force for good in the world, but as far as being part of a club of 330 people, like-minded people we can have a pretty significant impact," said Bob DiPietro, President of Yakima Rotary Club.

The motto of Rotarians is "Service Above Self" and DiPietro tells NBC Right Now that through Yakima Rotary, the difference made in both local and international communities is invaluable.

Just last year, Yakima Rotary traveled to Belize to help build homes there, and even worked on water sanitation projects in the Philippines.

Yakima Rotary is just one of the great volunteer groups in the Yakima area, there are even groups that are dedicated to specific goals.
