Helpful holiday hints from your local firefighters

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA- Saturday is National Hamburger Day, so there's your excuse to grill out if you didn't have one already. In addition to all the yummy necessities, we want you to have fun too- safe fun that is! We spoke with the Justin Lockman of the Pasco Fire Department regarding grilling safety, and he had a few tips for those of you planning to cook up some burgers.

"Always keep your barbecue at least 10 feet away from a residence," advises Lockman, "Make sure to maintain your children around the barbecue, and if you're using charcoal briquettes, always dispose of them properly. That involves keeping them cool for approximately two days after using them, and wrapping them in tinfoil and putting them into a non-combustible garbage can."

Firefighter Lockman also encourages everyone to be aware of their safety, not just around the dinner table, but also on the roads and in the water on this holiday weekend.
