Gardening for good with the Plants in Prison Program

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, WA-- For the past four months, Alyssa Kimura has been passing her appreciation for gardening on to some people who could use the therapeutic activity: the juvenile inmates at the Benton County Justice Center. There, Kimura and other WSU Master Gardeners have worked with the kids to set up indoor and outdoor gardens.

"Most of the kids don't get to go outside because of security concerns," Kimura told KNDU, "but all of the kids get to participate in the indoor garden."

It could be considered a chain of giving back- the Master Gardeners have given back to the kids at the Justice Center, and the kids have given back to the community by growing hundreds of produce for donation.
