16 year old passes away in a tragic car crash

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.--- A very sad loss in Yakima after a fatal car crash on Interstate 82. The young victim was 16-year-old Cobey Batrum. Cobey was a student at Selah High School. Troopers say his Honda Civic was traveling east bound on I-82 when Cobey veered to the right and off the road rolling the car and eventually it kept rest on it's top.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead on scene. Washington State Patrol is still investigating the cause of this crash. Cobey's family arrived on scene, it was extremely hard on them all. Troopers would like to remind us all, to stay safe on the roads.

"Slow down, observe what else is gong on around you, give yourself extra time to get from point A to point B," Lieutenant Kiley Conaway said.

He also reminds you to be prepared when travelling and if you get tired on the road, to pull over. It's better to be safe than sorry.

While Washington State Patrol was on this scene, they were observing and investigating on the tire tracks from Cobey's car in hopes of reaching a cause on how this tragic crash occurred.

If we get any more information regarding this crash, we will pass it along.
