BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol says a 31-year-old Mabton man was killed in a crash, Wednesday night along SR 14 at milepost 179.

Troopers say just after 8:30 p.m. the man was driving east when he crossed the center line and crashed, head-on into a semi-truck that was traveling west.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, 48-year-old Belinda Blacketer was not hurt.

Troopers have not released the man's name. They are waiting to notify next of kin.

Officers say the crash caused an explosion which led to a brush fire. Flames burned about 100 acres before firefighters put them out.

The Washington State Department of Transportation blocked off both lanes of SR 14 while crews worked to clear the scene. They reopened the roadway just after 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The Washington State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
