Man arrested with a stolen gun at WinCo Foods

KENNEWICK, WA.-- Kennewick Police Department received a phone call from the managers of the WinCo Foods on Clearwater Avenue this morning regarding two men lurking suspiciously in the beer aisle. They were right to trust their gut and call the police, as it turns out one of these men, Jacob O'bannon, was in possession of a stolen firearm.

"Sure enough he did have a gun in his waistband," said Officer Shirrell Veitenheimer, "A 40 caliber loaded handgun. We discovered that the gun was stolen out of a vehicle prowl in Stevens County about three years ago."

O'Bannon was accompanied by Andre Hicks, who was not carrying any weapons, and was not taken into custody. However, when police went to ensure that there were no loaded firearms in the car the men drove to the supermarket, they did find a few changes of clothes as well as an air-soft gun.

Officer Veitenheimer wants people to know that, while situations like this aren't common, if you see something that looks suspicious, you should always call the police.

"Somebody with a firearm isn't necessarily enough to warrant an emergency call. If there's something else with it, or the hairs are sticking up on the back of your neck... call us and we'll work it out."

Jacob O'Bannon will be facing felony charges as he was in possession of a stolen firearm, and the weapon was concealed although he did not have a concealed carry permit.
