Graffiti in downtown Kennewick creates stress for business owners

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick police are investigating after someone went on a graffiti spree in the downtown area of Kennewick, tagging multiple locations and businesses.

A Facebook post published by the police department shows photographs of the damage caused last night by one or more taggers.

Kennewick police are confident that this is the work of a lone suspect and not gang-related graffiti. The department is also fairly sure that the attention the suspect is likely seeking will, in the end, be his or her downfall.

But this notion is no consolation to the business and property owners whose buildings were vandalized.

"It's disgusting. Why would you do this to somebody else's property? That is not your property. You want to go home to your own bedroom and mark up your own room with all your little symbols? Go right ahead," said Sergeant Ken Lattin with the Kennewick Police Department. "But on somebody else's property, that's just rude."

KPD urges anyone who recognizes this tagging, which says "Slick", to contact authorities immediately so this vandalism can be put to an end and the suspect held accountable for his or her crimes.

If you have any information regarding the damage, please contact Kennewick police or Crime Stoppers at 586-TIPS or 1-800-222-TIPS.
