Pasco Police Department putting people to the test

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA.-- Being a police officer is no easy job, and now, some people are being put to the test to see if they have what it takes. Over 25 years ago, Sgt. Brad Gregory passed his test to become an officer but he says that, things have changed a lot since then.

Back then, there was a written test that challenged candidates's memories, and an obstacle course as a physical feat.

"Criminals are younger, criminals are faster, criminals are stronger," Sgt. Gregory told KNDU.

But luckily, officers are faster and stronger too.

Now, in order to prove they can physically do the job, hopeful future officers are subject to a mile-and-a-half long run, a three-hundred-yard dash, both timed, as well as the challenge of completing a certain number of push-ups and sit-ups.

But, while a lot of these elements have changed, some officer requirements are still the same, like a psych evaluation, and a polygraph test.
