Mandatory recount at Franklin County Election Center

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, WA - It was a busy day at the Franklin County Election Center. They're recounting the ballots for the District Two Franklin County Commissioners.

It was an extremely close call on Election Day for incumbent Congressman Bob Koch and Rocky Mullen. Koch took the lead by only 29 votes. That small margin is the reason why there's a mandatory manual recount of over 20,000 ballots today.

"It's required by state law that if you have a margin between two candidates that's less than one thousand ballots or one quarter of one percent, the law requires that we do a manual recount," said Jeff Burckhard, Chief Deputy Auditor with Franklin County Elections.

This is the biggest hand recount Franklin County has done. They anticipate that the process will be finished by tomorrow.
