Drive-by shooting in Toppenish injures a 13-year-old

TOPPENISH, WA - On December 19th at around 8:56 p.m., Toppenish Police Department officers were called to the 500 block of North Date St. in reference to a possible drive-by shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 13-year-old female victim who suffered a single gunshot wound to her back. 

Witnesses tell officers that at approximately 8:56, a suspect approached the residence and opened fire on it with a firearm. Several people were in the residence at the time and the 13-year-old was struck in the back by one of the multiple rounds. 

Residents in the area also reported hearing multiple gunshots. One other person inside the residence at the time of the incident was also injured. She suffered slight face lacerations from the debris caused by flying bullets. 

The 13-year-old was transported to Yakima Memorial and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. At this time, the 13-year-old is in stable condition.
