City of Kennewick talks management of excess melted snow

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - We've been seeing some dramatic weather these past few days. Temperatures ranged from the single digits to the mid-40s today, which means all of that snowfall is now melting.

There are some areas in Kennewick that are historically bad when it comes to water accumulation or flooding. Crews were out patrolling today to make sure road conditions are safe. With this abnormal weather lately, water on the roads can be a safety hazard it it's not taken care of.

"It can be especially dangerous when there's a rapid melt like this, where we have snow accumulation and then we get some rain and warm weather very quickly," said Evelyn Lusignan, Spokesperson for the city of Kennewick. "It's not melting slowly and absorbing into the ground; you can get that additional runoff."

Crews are making sure that streets are dry and safe, but they're also asking for your help. If you see any blockage on storm drains such as leaves or garbage, they ask that you report it. You can let the city know by calling their Public Works Department at (509) 585-4419 and providing a location.
