New brewery to open in Yakima this spring

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - In the next couple of months, a brand new brewery will make downtown Yakima its permanent home. Chuck and Cathy Redifer moved to the Yakima Valley from Ohio five years ago with hopes of starting their own brewing company in the land of hops.

"The original plan was to go somewhere bigger, kind of make our own building, and this space came open, and, 'let's do that'!" said Cathy, co-manager of the brewing company. "Great location, right in the middle of all these restaurants, downtown is picking up, let's add to it!"

After getting federal approval for the brewery in its new location on 123 East Yakima Avenue after months of home brewing, construction is expected to wrap up next month.

The Redifers say the brewery will have seating in front of the brewing room itself, so customers can see the beer-making process in action.

"We'll have everything from an IPA, to a blonde, to a red, to something a little bit darker, maybe a Porter, and then we'll probably have one that rotates seasonally."

The Redifers also expect the brewery will add to the vibe of the recently re-vamped downtown Yakima. Cathy says the environment of Redifer Brewing Company will be...

"...kind of modern. Very modern décor, I guess you could say, but, warm and inviting. We'll have some TVs, so people can come in and watch football on the weekends, in the evenings, whatever, but it's going to be warm."

Chuck and Cathy say the brewery should likely be open for business in late March or early April, and they can't wait to see their long-time goal become a reality.
