Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA COUNTY, WA - On February 13th at approximately 9:10 p.m., Yakima County Fire District #5 was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on 5th Avenue.

On arrival, units found a working structure fire that involved roughly half of the residence and was spreading rapidly throughout the rest of the residence. Firefighting efforts were hampered by the amount of debris and items that were on the property.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. The residence was considered a total loss; firefighters fought the fire defensively from the outside only as shortly after the arrival of units, the roof collapsed and it was deemed not safe to enter the residence.

At this time, it is unclear what started the fire. The investigation has been turned over to the Yakima County Fire Marshal's Office.
