How to give the most for least when it comes to pet food donations

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - We're more than halfway through our pet food drive that's been going on all month. As part of our effort to help our furry friends, we wanted to find out what the most cost-effective food to help dogs and cats for our food drive are...so reporter Jaclyn Selesky went to PetSmart to see which brands will give you the most for least.

Surprisingly, there's a lot more to it than you think. Patrick McKennon, store manager with PetSmart, explained that there are a lot of different grades of brands you can choose from. It starts with grocery store brands, then the cost-saving pet foods - which is what he showed us today - and then the premium brands.

McKennon says you don't need to break the bank when it comes to getting quality dog or cat food. Shopping for a brand like Authority and Simply Nourish not only saves you money right when you buy them, but the benefits outweigh the cost by far.

"With these foods, a lot of times it's cheaper in the long run because you're feeding them a whole lot less," said McKennon. "They have less health problems, less trips to the vet, and your dog or cat lives a longer, healthier life."

From now until February 28th, we'll be taking donations for our pet food drive. All donations go towards shelter animals in our area.

With these temperatures outside, it is really starting to feel like summer. This means you might be getting the boat ready to take out on the water. In order to have fun in the sun, you'll want to make sure your boat is safe and your passengers will be too. Today we stopped by the 19th Annual Boat and RV show to get some tips from the Benton County Sheriffs and Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers. They say you should take inventory of your boat to see if anything may have gotten lost ...More >>
