WALLA WALLA, WA - Four local law enforcement officers were honored last night during a ceremony at the Masonic Temple. Walla Walla Police K-9 Officer Travis Goodwin received his award, in part, due to his involvement in a couple of high-profile cases. He works with his K-9 partner Farel, who is trained in tracking and as an apprehension dog. In addition to his daily patrol duties, Travis and Farel are part of the Regional SWAT team.

Officer Goodwin and Farel were responsible for tracking and locating a firearm that was thrown in Pioneer Park by a suspect. Using his partner, they were able to locate the firearm and keep it from getting back into the hands of the suspect, or from being potentially found by a child playing in the park.

A second case was a successful track and apprehension of a burglary suspect who had been hitting pharmacies around the northwest and stealing large quantities of narcotics. The suspect had burglarized the Walla Walla Walgreens and fled from the store on foot. Officer Goodwin deployed his K9 partner to track the suspect and found him hiding under water in a stream several hundred yards from the store.

Other law enforcement honored during the ceremony were Deputy Kristen Daschofsky—WWSO, Officer Bill Kelly—CPPD, and Trooper Cody Mueller—WSP, for their efforts in making the Walla Walla Valley a safer place.
