Local winery hosts heart health event

Posted: Updated:

BENTON CITY, WA - This month is American Heart Month, all about heart health. One local winery is hosting an event to help bring awareness to our community, and reporter Crystal Garcia looked into it.

"It just hits so close to home, you know," said Shae Frichette, owner of Frichette Winery.

Frichette is talking about the reason she continues to host a heart heath awareness event at the winery she owns with her husband.

"I just want people to come in and take better care of themselves," Frichette said.

Enter "Wine and Art Saves Hearts", in it's third year. Frichette says she wants men and women to recognize just how serious heart disease is, something she has learned from a personal tragedy.

"You know, I lost a couple cousins that were in their early 20s," Frichette said, "and that was startling."

And it was then that she knew she needed to be a part of the awareness team.

"When it comes to things like what the American Heart Association is doing and the research on how heart disease impacts women and the research they put around this and stroke awareness, you know it's a very serious thing for me."

A serious thing that she wants to shed light on in a lighthearted manner at the event, where guests will hear stories of local people, enjoy art and wine, while keeping up with how to maintain a healthy heart.

"It's important to me," Frichette said. "It's important to inform my family and my extended family; the community."

The event is going on this coming Thursday, February 23rd, at Frichette Winery. They'll host 60 people, so you have to RSVP. It's a free event to enjoy wine, art, and learn about health. You can head to their website, frichettewinery.com, to learn more.
