The problem with potholes

Posted: Updated:

HERMISTON, OR - This winter has definitely taken a toll on our moods, on our backs from the shoveling, and even on our cars. Today, reporter Mackenzie Maynard checked out the roads in Hermiston to see just how hard it is for city street crews to keep the roads drivable.

Car after car, pothole after pothole, with all the winter weather we've had, it's not hard for potholes to pop up. Today, city street crews in Hermiston were out filling potholes every 20 feet on just one road alone, and it's no easy process.

"Busy with potholes, you know, no one likes to drive in a pothole," said Alan Phillips with the City of Hermiston Street Crew. "We've been at them all day today, and on and off sporadically weather permitting the past couple weeks."

It's sunny and dry days like today that allow crews here in Hermiston to get out on the roads and fill the potholes. But no matter where you are driving, be aware of your surroundings when out on the roads. If you do see a pothole, make sure to report it to the city.
