Rusillo's in Yakima to expand; adding bar and dance space

YAKIMA, WA - In one of Yakima's oldest buildings, Rusillo's Pizza and Gelato has occupied part of the old train station on North Front Street.

The Pizzeria, which has occupied the space for over a decade, is known for having a quiet, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin vibe, along with tasty Italian cuisine and homemade gelato.

Brandon Russell, owner and chef of the restaurant, says all of Rusillo's food comes from Sicilian family recipes, which, growing up, he learned from his father.

"He did all the cooking, and then the learning all the cooking from his dad and his mom, who immigrated from Italy, and passed those recipes on down the line," said Russell.

Starting in March, Rusillo's will utilize the 1,000 square foot space next door to open a bar and dance room, in hopes of attracting a bigger crowd on weekend nights.

"This is one of the coolest locations, why don't we have a bar in here?" says Jeff Richardson, general manager of Rusillo's. "The lighting is beautiful, the trains come in right there, I mean, you're thirty feet away when the trains come thundering by, and all the glass, and the cool location in the historic district."

The bar will have a casino/Godfather feel to it, and feature local talent on weekend nights, including everything from musicians to traveling theater shows, who will perform snippets of their current plays.

The new space will also host a buffet on weekday afternoons, with all kinds of Italian food already prepared so customers can enjoy a full Rusillo's experience on their lunch break.
