Thornton to return to CBC as Interim President

PASCO, WA - The Columbia Basin College Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of former CBC President Lee Thornton as Interim President of the college.

Thornton will take over on an interim basis when current President, Rich Cummins, leaves CBC March 30 after 27 years, nine as president. Cummins will become the Washington Chancellor for the online, Western Governors University.

Thornton served as CBC’s President 1995-2008. After retiring from CBC, he has worked as a higher education consultant. In addition, Thornton spent one year presiding over Blackfeet Tribal College in Browning Montana, 2012-2013. He currently lives in Missoula, Montana. Thornton begins his duties in April.

CBC will conduct a nationwide search to find Cummins’ permanent replacement.
