Sgt. Ken Lattin plans to run for Benton County Sheriff position this fall

KENNEWICK, WA - Sergeant Ken Lattin with the Kennewick Police Department officially announced at a press conference today his intent to become the next Benton County Sheriff.

Currently, Sgt. Lattin is the spokesperson for the department, and has 28 years of law enforcement experience. The current Benton County Sheriff, Steve Keane, is stepping down on April 1st for health reasons, and the county commissioners need to find a replacement.

Sgt. Lattin says the time is right, and it's an opportunity that doesn't come around often.

"Sometimes when you get an idea in your head, and you think about it for a week and you're like, 'that was stupid, why was I thinking about that'...that hasn't occurred," said Sgt. Lattin. "I get more exited every day. The more people I talked to that more people have reached out to me in support, and it just has energized me that this is the right move."

If he becomes sheriff, Sgt. Lattin hopes to reduce recidivism and also wants to support mental health programs for those in need. Sgt. Lattin also told us he will be running for the position this fall.
