Wheelhouse Community Bike Shop expands; opening new Richland location

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, WA - A local bike co-op is expanding to a second location just in time for a spring ride along the trail.

Wheelhouse Community Bike Shop will be moving into its Richland location, between George Washington Way and Howard Amon Park. Reporter Rex Carlin looked into the expansion to learn more.

The Kennewick-based business is expanding because they feel that bicyclists in and around the parks and trails in Richland are being under-served.

The co-op sells bikes, provides repair and maintenance services, insight into local trails, classes, rides...you name it.

Executive Director David Spaulding says they're opening a second location to better serve the needs of people in Richland.

"We wanted to have a connection of Wheelhouse in Richland that was right there next to the park and trails so that people feel more comfortable biking...feel safer," said Spaulding. "But also so that we can better promote biking for the area."

The new location will open soon. They don't have a set date yet, because the co-op members have to solidify certain aspects of the operation before they open their new doors.

Wheelhouse hosts group bike rides on Thursday evenings in Kennewick, and will soon start sponsoring Friday evening rides from the Richland location.
