Upcoming springtime activities in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - With spring just around the corner, locals and tourists alike in Yakima will be getting ready for sunshine and outdoor activities. Reporter Caitlin Medearis spoke with some folks from Yakima Valley Tourism and Craft Beverage Yakima to see what's in store for the upcoming spring months.

The most popular local activities, unsurprisingly, are wine tasting and brewery hopping.

"You can select maybe three or four different businesses and drive to each one, and you can taste different products at each location, sometimes you do a little tasting sampler, and at a lot of our venues you can really talk with the person who made what you're drinking," says Craft Beverage Yakima spokesperson Jessica Hawkins. "So really, that connection, that farm-to-glass connection is what you can experience when you visit,"

Hawkins says to make it worthwhile. You can map out visits so you even win a prize at the end.

"You can pick yourself up a Craft Beverage Yakima map, and if you get ten stamps - which we don't recommend doing in one day - if you get ten stamps over the course of a period of time, then you get a Craft Beverage Yakima growler, which you can fill up with one of our great beverages."

Coming up in April, the Pre-Spring Barrel Food Truck Rally will pair local wine with some of the area's favorite food trucks and live music.

There will also be Spring Barrel Wine Tasting for wine lovers in town, the Roots and Wines Festival to feature all Yakima-made drinks, and the Rattlesnake Hills Wine Run to taste some of the area's best wines while also participating in a 5k, 10k, or half marathon.

Yakima Valley Tourism says starting in mid-March, it's the best time to take a tour through Yakima Valley's beautiful orchards.
