Second Harvest needs your help

Posted: Updated:

More than three million pounds of food.
That's how much Second Harvest delivered in this region last year.
But they need your help to continue their mission.
The mobile food bank is on the road about 250 a year bringing food to some of the most depressed areas of our region.
"A lot of times we're reaching out to those high need rural areas where the food bank is very small and there's still a lot of need or they might be in a food desert where they don't have access to much fresh produce," said Second Harvest's Jean Tucker.
Even with the all the discounts Second Harvest is able to get, including the ability to t purchase food for roughly 20 cents a pound, making sure people get a healthy meal starts to add up.
"We can deliver 8,000 to 12,000 pounds of food to up to 250 families in just a couple of hours," she said.
That's where you come in.
Second Harvest hopes to raise 45-thousand dollars to put towards their mobile program.
"For anyone who's trying to make a difference in their community, by helping feed families in need, this is a great, very economical way to do that. "
Donations will not only help Second Harvest buy food, they also help maintain the mobile food truck to ensure it can keep delivering food.
"Largely those costs are around fuel, which fluctuates all the time as we know when we go to pump gas at the pump, and so this will really help us be able to get that food out on the road."
