How the Duportail Bridge will affect traffic

RICHLAND, WA - Plans have been in the making for a couple years, and now that 2017 is here the City of Richland is looking forward to the construction start date coming this year for the Duportail Bridge.

A recurring question oftentimes is if this will help to alleviate traffic.

Reporter Mackenzie Maynard sat down and talked with the Richland Public Works Director, Pete Rogalsky.

"It was intended to link Queensgate or southwest Richland area to downtown," Rogalsky said. "To the extent that some people have a different way to go, it might lighten the load on Hanford commute trips a little bit but that was never the goal, and people shouldn't plan on primary changes to that...that'll remain."

And how soon can we expect this bridge to be available?

"We hope to hire a contractor by the end of the year, and open it to traffic by 2020," said Rogalsky.
