FINLEY, WA -- At approximately 1:10 p.m. today, March 13th, all three schools in the Finley District were placed on a non-critical lock down due to a train derailment near Perkins Road and Highway 397 in Kennewick.

The lock down at Finley Elementary, Finley Middle, and River View High School lasted approximately 15 minutes before being lifted. At no time were students in danger, and the lock down occurred as a standard safety precaution as per district protocol.

The Finley School District worked with the Benton County Sheriff's Office both during and after the lock down.

KENNEWICK, WA - Three train cars have derailed in the area of E. Perkins Road and S. Finley Road in Benton County.

Two tons of possible ammonium nitrate has spilled from one of the cars that derailed on the Union Pacific tracks. Hazmat crews have been called in. No word on any injuries.

As of now, the spilled fertilizer causes no health or environmental hazard, and authorities say the train cars will  be back on the tracks in one to two days.

This is a developing story.
