Only in Washington: Smitty's Log Cabin Cafe

YAKIMA, WA - Reporter Veronica Padilla went to the last restaurant in our area that made's list of places with "food so good it should be illegal". And this cafe is the last place anyone would expect to find great food.

Smitty's Log Cabin Cafe is the epitome of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. It's inside the Conoco gas station on Fruitvale Boulevard in Yakima.

"You can either get gas. You can get pop. You can get beer," said customer Steve Carter. "Or you can get some of their excellent food."

Comfort food is Smitty's calling card. For the most important meal of the day, breakfast burritos are made however the customer wants. Cooks serve up about 50 a day. "The Olympic" is also quite popular, especially for customers like Steve Carter.

"So you can call early on Sunday morning. Come down and get your chicken fried steak, smothered in gravy and hash browns cooked to order and you can take it home. That's my favorite thing."

Smitty's is also known for their unique burgers. They're square, so the buns have to be specially-made.

What's distinctive about the cafe is the skiing equipment that's on all the walls. The owners - three brothers - love the sport.

But the most memorable thing about a trip to Smitty's Cafe may just be the people you meet at the table sitting next to you. They're the ones that bring the cafe to a whole other level.

So whether you feel like eating burritos or hamburgers at Smitty's Cafe, it will feel like you're eating with family and friends.
